According to healthcare statistics, Vietnam records approximately 200,000 deaths related to cardiovascular diseases each year, accounting for nearly one-third of all deaths nationwide. Notably, the mortality rate among patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest remains extremely high, reaching 96.7%. One of the major contributing factors is the lack of readily available emergency medical equipment, combined with limited public knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), with only around 8.7% of the population possessing these essential skills.

Meanwhile, numerous international medical studies indicate that when an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is used within the first three critical minutes following cardiac arrest, survival rates can reach up to 74%. This provides a strong foundation for expanding public access to AEDs, reducing emergency response times, and increasing the chances of saving lives.

With VND 2 billion in funding from FPT Corporation, the community AED deployment initiative, a vision that Associate Professor Nguyen Lan Hieu, MD, PhD, has pursued for many years, has officially entered its implementation phase.

The project has selected Da Nang as its first pilot location, with plans to install AEDs at local primary healthcare stations. As one of Vietnam's leading tourism destinations, Da Nang welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors in just one quarter. Installing AEDs in community locations not only enhances timely emergency response capabilities for residents and tourists but also demonstrates the city's commitment to building a safer urban environment, better prepared to respond to medical emergencies in line with international standards.

The journey to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) more accessible to communities across Vietnam has only just begun. Wellbeing sincerely thanks FPT Corporation and Hanoi Medical University Hospital for the opportunity to participate in and contribute to this socially meaningful initiative.

We believe that through the collective efforts of organizations, businesses, and communities, timely and effective emergency medical solutions will become increasingly accessible, helping save lives and improve the quality of community healthcare throughout Vietnam.
